Financing for the brand new Deurganckdok Lock on the left bank of the River Scheldt has been finalised, the Flemish government has announced. At a size of 68 by 500 metres, the lock will be the biggest sea lock in the world, bigger even than the Berendrecht lock, the current record holder. “It’s not in fact bigger, but much deeper, providing capacity for larger ships to pass,” says Annik Dirckx of the Antwerp port authority.
