A new lock for the docks on the left bank of the Scheldt
Preparations are underway in Waasland Port for one of the largest infrastructure projects in Flanders to be established in the coming years. The Flemish Region and the Antwerp Port Authority are joining forces to forge ahead with a second lock in Waasland Port.
Did you know that the lock is as long as the Antwerp Meir shopping street and as wide as a 19-lane motorway? Together with the Berendrecht Lock in the north of the Port of Antwerp the new lock is set to be the largest one in the world. This will ensure that Waasland Port – the dock area on the left bank of the Scheldt – can play a full role in the Port of Antwerp's development.
